Ulan Coal Mine
Ulan Coal Mines Ltd (UCML) is one of the most established coal mining operations in the western coalfields of NSW and one of the State’s leading exporters of thermal coal. UCML consists of both open cut and underground coal mining operations to the west and north of the mining lease, respectively. Both mines are managed by Xstrata Coal Australia Pty Limited, which owns 90% of UCML. Joint Venture partner Mitsubishi Development holds the remaining 10%. Roche Mining operates and maintains the Ulan Open Cut Mine.
UCML operates a twenty four hour operation and includes a coal handling a preparation plant (CHPP), conveyors, a drag line, stockpiles, a rail to port facility, administration buildings, and an underground access point. Operation of the Open cut mine, CHPP and rail loading facility are undertaken under contract and is currently operated by Roche Mining Pty Ltd.
