Ulan Coal is one of the most established coal mining operations in the western coalfields of NSW and one of the leading exporters of thermal coal in NSW. Ulan Coal consists of both open cut and underground coal mining operations, and is managed by Xstrata Coal Australia.

A new underground mine is now being developed to the west of the existing mine about 30 minutes north of Mudgee with state-of-the-art facilities and significant new career opportunities.
