The Ulan Mine’s Environmental Vision and Policy & Community Policy is at the forefront of the framework within the EMS, and states the company’s intentions and principles in relation to its environmental performance, the local community, and what is expected of all employees and contractors who work at Ulan Mine.
Also within the framework of the EMS are comprehensive standards, management plans, procedures, objectives and targets, which help maintain and continually improve environmental performance. Routine inspections and regular environmental audits are undertaken to assess performance against objectives and targets and identify opportunities for improvement.
UCML is also required to comply with a vast range of legislation and the requirements of different government departments. In addition, an environmental training program is in place under the EMS framework to ensure that all employees and contractors who work at Ulan Mine are fully aware of their obligations in regards to the environment.
The Ulan Environmental Management Strategy (EMStrat) ensures that the above framework of the EMS is integrated with the relevant sections of the Roche Management System (RMS) and with all other requirements of XCN and Xstrata plc. The EMStrat is aligned to principles of ISO14001 (2004) and provides direction and guidance to the implementation of the Ulan Mine EMS.
