Ulan Coal Mines Limited (UCML) operates an open cut and an underground mine. The open cut mine is operated under contract by Roche Mining and is the most efficient and productive open cut in Australia. The underground mine operates a long wall mining operation which has recently commissioned a 400 meter wide Long Wall miner which is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
